Sheet music with words gets error on Music XML download:(

Hi All,

When I download the Music XML for sheet music it works fine except when the music contains the words. Then I get

Could not open the file /tmp/Killing me softly.xml-2.txt.
gedit has not been able to detect the character coding.
Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file.
Select a character coding from the menu and try again.
Character Coding: Current Locale (UTF-8)
or, optionally, Western (ISO-8859-15)

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

What software are you using?

Hi Dale,

Can you give me some more details like what software you are using
to open the file?
I'm not a XML wizard, but I can push to the experts in the team.

Thx
Thomas

Fedora Core 6, firefox v2

Hi Thomas,

I think it might be good to track resolutions via the Forum, what do you think? (But, I'm wondering now if folks will get automatic Forum conversation updates via email. Hmmm...)

I live on RedHat Linux' Fedora Core 6 and am using firefox version 2. I will be happy to setup an account y'all can try it out with if you wish.

notation program

Yes, you're right. It's better to follow it via the forum. Concerning email updates, that can be arranged in the future. But at this moment, we are working on different issues, like creating a true wiki environment.
Anyway, it has been noted.

I'm wondering right now how we can narrow down where the problem comes from. Just to know: what music notation software are you using on the Fedora box to open the musicXML file?

Windows 2003 server, firefox v1.5.09 works OK.

Hi Thomas,

You might be happy to know that Windows 2003 server, firefox v1.5.09 works OK for me.

Differences in download

If I'm right, you are two users (Metta, Namaste) using the same DaleEMoore account right? Or is it just one person working on 2 different boxes? The windows is not having problems, the fedora (below) has problems, right?

As Wikifonia is 'forcing' a download of the musicXML file, do you think this might introduce differences in the downloaded file?

Just one of me:)

Hi Thomas,

Metta and Namaste are Buddhist salutations. There is just one Dale E. Moore using lots of different computers.

PS: Hugs is not another person!

Gedit

This is a Gedit issue. To open the file with GEdit :

- Choose Save As instead of Open in Firefox (or your beloved browser)
- Open Gedit
- Choose Open a file in the menu
- In character encoding add UTF-16 and select it
- Open the file

Perfect!

Hi Lasconic,

Many thanks for your response, it worked perfectly for me.

Namaste,
